The restaurant's design is characterized by geometric block interspersing, array construction techniques, and architectural language. The core of the space features a high ceiling, using vertical structures to balance the spatial rhythm and increase interest. The bar area is particularly dramatic, with exquisite metal materials contrasting against coarse cement textures.
The design process involved on-site data collection, analysis of moving lines, area division, and layout planning. The spatial image was then created, taking into consideration the restaurant's consumption and brand positioning. The final design was simulated in a three-dimensional model before construction began.
The project, which covers an area of 290 square meters and can accommodate 60 diners at a time, was completed within a month, from June to July 2019. The design adheres to local fire code and site property requirements, with the main color being red to enhance the visual effect. The spatial modeling was achieved through deconstruction and reconstruction to maintain visual balance.
Despite the challenges, such as the prohibition of facade transformation in shopping malls and the need to integrate Yangzhou City Style, Zhang was able to reduce the commercial attribute of the restaurant space. The design not only balances aesthetics and function but also explores elements beyond design. With the rapid development of society and the upgrading of production capacity and consumption, Zhang's design ensures the extension of the fresh life of design results.
The May Cuisine project is a testament to Zhang's ability to create a unique, engaging, and aesthetically pleasing commercial space. The design's success is reflected in its Silver A' Design Award, a prestigious accolade awarded to designs that display outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill.
